As you can imagine, the need for fundraising is greater than ever. Besides keeping all of our programs running through the pandemic, we also expanded our housing options from 45 units of transitional living to a range of programs and services in 114 apartments. Although we are pleased with our growth, the need in Columbus remains great. Each year, 3000 youth ages 12-24 experience homelessness in our city. 

The needs of at-risk youth in our community have changed in the past year. Huck House’s outreach team used to reach thousands of youth in school assemblies and at community events. Now, we are working to meet youth where they are – virtually in their classrooms and on their phones.

3,000 young people ages 14 to 24 will experience homelessness in Columbus in 2021.

Another 4,000 will be at risk of homelessness, unsure of where they will sleep on any given night.

At Huckleberry House, a brighter future starts at our front door.

From the 96 new apartments opened since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to the 4,618 nights of shelter provided in our crisis shelter last year, we are meeting the needs of homeless and unstably housed youth ages 12 to 24. With a 90% success rate in our Transitional Living Program, we are addressing the long-term self-sufficiency of young people and keeping them out of the adult homeless system. Proceeds of the SLEEP OUT! benefit the proven programs of Huckleberry House.
