I'm Casey Gillespie, and I'm diving into a new experience with the Columbus Wizards: the 2024 Huckleberry House Sleep Out Campaign on May 31 at Lower.com Field, Chase Plaza. This is my first year getting involved, and I'm eager to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges our homeless youth endure.  I recognize the importance of acknowledging the real battles our youth face off the basketball court. While we strive for victory in our games, it's crucial to lend our support to those in need within our community.

Community service is not just something we do—it's the foundation for everything we do at the Columbus Wizards. We use basketball as our vessel to actively make a difference in our community. The cause of youth homelessness is close to my heart—I firmly believe that every young person deserves a safe place to call home.

The statistics are staggering: 3,000 youth in Franklin County alone are experiencing homelessness this year, with an additional 4,000 at risk. In 2023, Huckleberry House provided nearly 36,000 nights of shelter and essential services to homeless and unstably housed youth aged 12-24. Their dedication to guiding and supporting young individuals navigating challenges is truly inspiring.
